Process overviewThe process consists of a laser beam energy source and a powder-gas spray nozzle. The laser spot melts the substrate and the powder converges into the beam and melt pool. This forms the deposit material that is metallurgically bonded and can be successivelly layered to form additively manufactured geometry.

Laser Hardening on a CNC machine can be a more efficient option than the expense of a robot booth, control system, robot programmer, etc. Due to the advent of hybrid manufacturing, it has become a new manufacturing approach to consolidate the laser hardening tool into a cnc machine and utilize the existing programming, operation system that exists with a CNC machine tool.
